Different approaches to the design of the camera and housing exist. Within our experience there are some points of common interest:

  • keep the housing waterproof from top, but allow for a hole downside for letting humidity flow outside
  • protect the housing from direct sun radiation by a separated shield of e.g. aluminium - which also keeps hard rain/snow from falling to the housing/the lens
  • the housing should allow for WLAN signal passing into it if connected wireless
  • at Sdcam-Raspi there are two external temperature sensors: one for inside the housing and the second for outside the housing; prevent them from direct sun radiation
  • the Sdcam-Raspi must be plugged via a electromechanical switch to power in order to power on before sunrise and power off ca. 30 min after sunset; The Raspi goes to HALT/OFF modus ones a day and therefore does not need to operate permanently.
